Qualifications

MSci Natural Sciences, Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, DPhil Physics, Hertford College, University of Oxford

Academic Background

I studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge followed by a DPhil in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Planetary Physics at the University of Oxford. I then worked as a Lindemann Fellow at the Department of Geophysical Sciences at the University of Chicago, and as a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol. I joined Christ Church as a Junior Research Fellow in October 2021.

Undergraduate teaching

Physics of Atmospheres and Oceans (C5)

Research Interests

I study the atmospheres of exoplanets, using mathematical and computational models to understand their atmospheric circulation. I am particularly interested in the global atmospheric dynamics of tidally locked planets, which always present the same side to their host star. I have published on topics such as the observable features of lava planets, the mechanisms for the formation of atmospheric jets on tidally locked planets, and a method for decomposing their atmospheric circulation into physically distinct components. The aim of my fellowship is to extend this work to gaseous “Hot Jupiter” exoplanets.
