Territorial Army Centenary Service

The 40% House

Christ Church is to become 'The 40% House' and is on track to cut carbon emissions by 60% by 2050. Christ Church has responded to the threat posed by climate change by launching its first Energy Policy in its 484 year history, outlining a strategy to transform energy systems and reduce carbon emissions by 60% by 2050 (or by 1,634 tonnes of CO2 per annum), The Very Reverend Dr Christopher Lewis,  Dean of Christ Church said today.





Tower Poetry Prize Winners

The winners of the 2008 Christopher Tower Poetry Prize, the UK’s most prestigious award for 16 to 18 year old aspiring poets, have been announced today at a luncheon reception at Christ Church in Oxford.

Eighteen-year old Emily Middleton (left) from The King’s School, Macclesfield was awarded the £3000 first prize for her poem, The Five Stages.  Winner of the second (£1000) prize is Ashley McMullin (The Sixth Form College, Colchester) with Journey to Hilly Country and the third prizewinner (£500) is Nina Bahadur from St Paul’s Girls’ School, London with her poem, Heat.



Literary Festival

Christ Church is welcoming around two hundred and fifty writers and thousands of visitors this week at the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival, which we are very happy to be hosting once again from the 31st of March to the 6th April. An exciting and far-ranging programme of speakers for the 12th festival are here at Christ Church to debate, discuss ideas and share their passion for their subject.





Easter Celebration

Easter was celebrated joyfully at Christ Church Cathedral this weekend. Despite falling snow, hundreds queued in Tom Quad for the main Easter Sunday services. The First Eucharist of Easter was celebrated on Saturday night in a Service of Light at which members of churches in the diocese were baptised, confirmed and welcomed into the Church of England.





University Challenge Triumph!

A team of Christ Church students has won the coveted University Challenge TV Quiz competition. The Christ Church members Max Kaufman, Susannah Darby, Charles Markland and Alex Bubb beat a team from Sheffield University in the final of the competition, by 220 points to 170. The programme, hosted by Jeremy Paxman, was broadcast  at 8pm on Monday the 3rd of March, on BBC2. We congratulate the team for this outstanding achievement.




Appointment of the Architect to the Foundation

Christ Church, Oxford is pleased to announce the appointment of Jane Kennedy, a Principal of Purcell Miller Tritton, as the Architect to the Foundation.







Say "No" to Plastic

This weekend, Christ Church began a campaign against the use of plastic bags with a sculpture in Peck Quad. The Aim? To make Christ Church a plastic bag free zone. Christ Church is taking great steps towards becoming a greener college, committing to a 60% cut carbon emissions by 2050. This campaign is one of many small steps towards achieving this goal, and towards making the House as green as possible






Preparing for the Times Literary Festival

Christ Church's Head Chef, Roland Depit, seen here in Wolsey's historic kitchen, is preparing a grand Italian Luncheon in Christ Church Hall, sponsored by Sacla, the internationally known producer of Italian foods, in conjunction with the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival and the Guild of Food Writers' annual gathering.

Admissions Open Day 2008

The Christ Church Open Day for prospective applicants will be held on Wednesday 25th June. Aimed at students who will be applying to university this Autumn, our Open Day is planned to give you the opportunity to see Christ Church, meet our Tutors and undergraduates, and find out as much as possible about what we offer and how you apply.
