Appointment of the Architect to the Foundation

Christ Church, Oxford is pleased to announce the appointment of Jane Kennedy, a Principal of Purcell Miller Tritton, as the Architect to the Foundation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Say "No" to Plastic

This weekend, Christ Church began a campaign against the use of plastic bags with a sculpture in Peck Quad. The Aim? To make Christ Church a plastic bag free zone. Christ Church is taking great steps towards becoming a greener college, committing to a 60% cut carbon emissions by 2050. This campaign is one of many small steps towards achieving this goal, and towards making the House as green as possible

 

 

 

 

 

Preparing for the Times Literary Festival

Christ Church's Head Chef, Roland Depit, seen here in Wolsey's historic kitchen, is preparing a grand Italian Luncheon in Christ Church Hall, sponsored by Sacla, the internationally known producer of Italian foods, in conjunction with the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival and the Guild of Food Writers' annual gathering.

Admissions Open Day 2008

The Christ Church Open Day for prospective applicants will be held on Wednesday 25th June. Aimed at students who will be applying to university this Autumn, our Open Day is planned to give you the opportunity to see Christ Church, meet our Tutors and undergraduates, and find out as much as possible about what we offer and how you apply.

Independant Picture Review

The importance of Christ Church's art collection is once more highlighted by a newspaper article on one of our paintings. In the Arts & Books Review in The Independent on Friday, the 25th, the art critic Tom Lubbock discusses John Riley's (1646-91) A Scullion of Christ Church. This unusual painting - one of the first portraits of a servant ever painted - can be seen in the Picture Gallery.

Christ Church is both Oxford University's largest College and the Cathedral Church for the Anglican Diocese of Oxford. We welcome visitors throughout the year to enjoy its beauty and fascinating history, including Wolsey's Great Hall, its stunning medieval Cathedral, award winning Picture Gallery and enchanting buildings which have been the setting for many films, including The Golden Compass.

Christ Church Commemoration Ball

The Christ Church Commemoration Ball 2008 takes place on 14th of June, 2008, with the theme, 'All the World's a Stage': For one night only Christ Church will put on a spectacle that equals no other. As the doors swing open and the performance begins you will be immersed in a world of endless variety, for the stage can encompass all manner of creative endeavours.

Cathedral Choir Tour Jamaica

The Christ Church Cathedral Choir flew off to the Caribbean last Friday, 19th October, for a week-long visit to Jamaica. On Sunday 21 October, they sang the Morning Service at the lovely Spanish Town Cathedral and gave a concert, jointly with the Kingston College Chapel Choir in Holy Trinity Cathedral in the evening. There is a busy programme for the whole week, but with some time to relax too...

 

 

 

 

Julian Lloyd Webber Masterclass

On Thursday 11th October the renowned international cellist Julian Lloyd Webber was at Christ Church as a guest of the college Music Society, putting Oxford University cellists through their paces in a Masterclass held in the Cathedral.

Welcome for Canon Professors

Christ Church's two new Canon Professors were installed as Residentiary Canons of the Cathedral at a special ceremony on Saturday 6th of October. The Crown Appointments Secretary read the Letters Patent from Her Majesty the Queen appointing The Revd Professor Nigel Biggar to the Regius Chair of Moral and Pastoral Theology and Professor Sarah Foot to the Regius Chair of Ecclesiastical History. The Bishop of Oxford was present to give the final blessing.
