Cathedral Choir tour USA

The Christ Church Cathedral Choir are on tour in the USA! They arrived safely this week and have begun their exciting concert programme: "Last night’s performance was a triumph. 700 people were there and at the end the audience lept to its feet and whistled, cheered and stamped their feet".  Information and photos are a number of photos up on the daily blog here which includes a recording of their triumphant first concert in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Christ Church Torpids Success

On the Saturday of the 2011 Torpids boat races, Christ Church's Mens 1st Torpid retained its place at the head of the river, comfortably keeping its distance from the Pembroke boat which pursued it all week.

Christ Church offers support to Christchurch NZ

Cathedral Tour Blog

The Cathedral Choir will be on tour in to the USA and Canada this year and in preparation has set up a 'Tour Blog' to to provide background and insight into the daily workings of the choir, in preparation for the visit. 

Local Schools share Christ Church's musical heritage

Many people associate Christ Church with an illustrious musical tradition and generations of accomplished Cathedral musicians. It may not be as well known, however, that every week during term-time, Christ Church shares its musical heritage with primary schools from around Oxford. Choristers and staff travel each Wednesday to teach songs to a wide number of school children, and each term they and their local community are invited back to Christ Church to perform in a concert.

Princess Badiya el Hassan

On Sunday 28th November In place of the usual University Sermon, Princess Badiya El Hassan, who read History at Christ Church, gave a talk about the way in which she sees the place of Muslims in this country and about her hopes for the development of Muslim relations with other faiths. The Dean of Christ Church says: ‘Princess Badiya's talk comes at an appropriate time, when moderate Muslims are expressing their views with clarity and when people all over the UK, and in many parts of the world, are working hard at improving relations between faiths, and indeed between different faiths and local communities.’ The Bishop of Oxford says: ‘I commend the work the Cathedral is doing to help mutual understanding between our faiths.’

Christ Church Engineer's super sea turbine

Kepler Energy has been spun out from Oxford University to develop a second-generation tidal turbine, Isis Innovation has announced. Its developers claim the turbine has the potential to harness tidal energy more efficiently and economically as it is simpler, more robust and more scalable than current designs.

Christ Church hosts Anglican-Orthodox Dialogue

Christ Church recently acted as host to the International Commission for Anglican-Orthodox Theological Dialogue. This commission, which met from 31 August to 6 September, explored aspects of Christian anthropology: ‘what is a human being?’; ‘the freedom and growth of the human being with particular reference to the understanding of image and likeness’; and ‘human responsibility for the creation; a critical overview of recent statements by our churches’. Participants included the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Dr Rowan Williams, who celebrated the Eucharist and preached in the cathedral on Sunday morning. Dr Williams is an Honorary Student and former Canon of Christ Church.

Cathedral Choir Gramophone shortlist

A recent recording made by the Christ Church Cathedral Choir has been shortlisted for this year's prestigious Gramophone Early Music Award.
