Patronal Eucharist for St Frideswide's Day
Join us on Tuesday 20 October at 6.05 pm as we celebrate the patron saint of the city, Diocese and University of Oxford, the abbess Frideswide.
During the service, we will be invited to process to Frideswide's shrine in the Latin Chapel and lay a sprig of rosemary (rosemary is provided). The Cathedral Choir and Frideswide Voices will sing Vaughan Williams' Mass in G Minor, and our preacher will be the College Chaplain, the Revd Dr Kirsty Borthwick.
A Saxon princess born in the mid 7th century, Frideswide formed and led a religious community by the Thames which represents the beginnings of both Christ Church's and Oxford's stories. This year marks 1299 years since her death in 727 AD, with next year set to be one of celebrations of 1300 years of her legacy.
