Junior Research Fellowships 2026/27 (Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences)

National Spine Point 30: £40,514 per annum (current rates)

Four-year fixed term, from 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter

Summary

Christ Church invites applications for up to two Junior Research Fellowships in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences from the subjects listed below, with effect from 1st October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Junior Research Fellowships are full-time research posts offered by Oxford colleges to early career researchers and provide an unrivalled opportunity to establish a research profile as a member of a collegiate community.

Chef de Partie

University Scale Grade 4 (currently £29,761 to £33,810 per annum depending on experience)

Permanent, 40 hours per week – variable as per the roster

Summary

Christ Church invites applications for a suitably experienced Chef de Partie to join their kitchen team.

The Chef de Partie plays a vital role in the kitchen team at Christ Church. The post-holder will have experience within a similar environment and have knowledge of all sections of the kitchen to prepare and provide excellent quality dishes using their own initiative. The Chef de Partie is responsible for preparing and cooking dishes in accordance with standard recipes or following the guidance of the Head Chef/ Sous Chefs, and assisting with the development and creativity of new menus as requested by the Head Chef.

Pastry Chef de Partie

University Grade 4, £33,810 per annum 

Permanent, 40 hours per week - variable as per the roster

Summary

Christ Church are looking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic Pastry Chef de Partie to join their kitchen team.

The successful applicant will work as part of the kitchen team in the day to day running of the Pastry section under the direction of the Pastry Sous Chef and Pastry Head Chef.  The Pastry Chef de Partie will contribute to the high standard in full or part production, presentation and service of all types of pastry items including afternoon teas, fine dining, banqueting, cafeteria and buffets delivered to students, fellows, staff and college events.

Millard and Lee Alexander Post-doctoral Fellowship 2026/27

The fellowship is offered on a non-stipendiary basis: the Fellow is not an employee of Christ Church, and the Fellowship does not constitute an employment.

The initial period of the Fellowship is for one year, but it may be renewed for up to one further year while the departmental appointment continues.

Summary

Applications are invited for the Millard and Lee Alexander Fellowship, in Mathematics or one of the Physical Sciences, for the academic year 2026-2027.

The fellowship is intended to give College affiliation to a post-doctoral research worker from outside Oxford; applicants must have carried out their doctoral research at a university other than Oxford and have no existing affiliation to an Oxford college.

Foundation Surveyor (Estates Director)

Up to £90,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience

Permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Summary

Christ Church seeks to appoint a suitably experienced and qualified Foundation Surveyor.

The Foundation Surveyor, reports to the Treasurer and is an important member of the Treasurer's senior team with responsibility, amongst other things, for the planning and implementation of the repair, refurbishment, maintenance and improvement of the College, Cathedral buildings, and Christ Church School.

The successful candidate will be a Chartered Building Surveyor ideally with a postgraduate qualification in building conservation. Experience of working with a variety of significant heritage/listed buildings, ideally including churches/cathedrals, and a strong technical understanding and experience of the design and construction of heritage/listed buildings are essential. 

Liddell Building Site Supervisor

University Grade 5 (salary range is £32,108 per annum to £36,340 per annum)

Permanent, 40 hours per week

Summary

Christ Church are seeking an experienced Site Supervisor to manage their Liddell Building site (part of Christ Church) which is located on Iffley Road, Oxford and the reception is staffed 24 hours a day.

The role requires someone with good management and communication skills to oversee a team of porters, scouts and maintenance staff. The Site Supervisor will be responsible for the security and health and safety (including fire safety compliance) of the site

Executive Assistant to the Treasurer and Chief Investment Officer

University Scale Grade 6 (currently £35,681 to £41,636 with a discretionary range up to £45,212 per annum)

Permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Summary

Christ Church is seeking to appoint a proactive and efficient Executive Assistant to support the Treasurer, Chief Investment Officer and Director of Planning and Housing for the Foundation. This role is at the very heart of a large Oxford College, a Cathedral and a Cathedral School, in a busy and fast-paced environment. 

Fowler Hamilton Visiting Research Fellowships (September 2027 - July 2028)

Fowler Hamilton Fellowships are offered on a non-stipendiary basis. 

Fixed-term (Applicants may apply for a period of three, six or ten months)

Summary

Applications for Fowler Hamilton Visiting Fellowship are invited from researchers currently living outside the UK, in the Humanities or the Social Sciences, in the period September 2027 - July 2028. Applicants may apply for a period of three, six and or ten months during this period. 

The Fellowships are intended to enable distinguished senior scholars and creative artists to pursue their own research as members of the college, providing an opportunity for academics to benefit from an association, and engage in the academic and social life of Christ Church.
