William Rupert Compton was the son of Sir William Everard Browne Ffolkes, Bt an insurance clerk, and Sybil Compton Maule.

In 1901 the family was living at 8 Upton Park Slough, with his maternal grandmother part of the household.

He was educated at Radley, playing for the Radley XI in 1916. It can be assumed he obtained a place at Christ Church.

He commenced Service on 12 September 1917, served in France, and was killed in action on 30 December.

He is buried at Hermies Hill British Cemetery at Plot I F 43.
