Edward Brassey was born in London, the eldest son of Charles Augustus and Lady Maybelle Egerton.

He was educated at Eton and came up to Oxford in the Hilary Term of 1907.
After going down in 1909, he joined the 17th Lancers, served in India, and appears to have been with them in attendance at the Coronation Durbar.

After the death of his father in 1912, he inherited Mountfield Court, Robertsbridge. Sussex and married Lady Eleanor Rachel Butler, daughter of the 4th Marquess of Ormonde, on 17 August 1915.

He arrived in France in November 1914 as a Lieutenant, and was later promoted to Captain.

He died from wounds received in action in Arras. He is commemorated in All Saints Church, Mountfield.
