Died of wounds aged 20
Buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, III.C.

Algernon Arthur was born in Atcham, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, the son of Henry Lindsay Young, schoolmaster at an ‘army tutor school’ and Edith Alice nee Pattenden.  Henry died in 1899, and in 1901 his widow was living ‘on her own means’ with her 12-year-old daughter and 7-year-old Algernon in Eastbourne.

Although his birth certificate recorded his name as Algernon Arthur, the name Lindsey was added by the time of the 1911 census and the initial or name appears in army papers.

Having fought in France he died of wounds on 22 February 1915 in the Army Hospital Bologne.

Lance Corporal Young’s name appears on a part of the War Memorial devoted to those who had been choristers, or college servants, at Christ Church.
