Died aged 33
Grave unknown

Frederick Ambrose was born in Southwell, Nottingham, the son of John, an Inspector of Police, and Hephzibah Marshall.

He enlisted in the regular army in December 1897, as a boy soldier, probably for a five-year period.

In the 1911 census, he was living in Church Street, Southwell, with his widowed mother, his occupation Lay Clerk, employed by the ‘ecclesiastical commissioners‘. When he signed up in 1915 his occupation was shown as Lay Clerk at the Cathedral.

He died in Oxford in December 1918.

(Private Marshall’s name is listed at the end of the Memorial devoted to former choristers, college servants, or with some other close connection with Christ Church.)
