Louis Edwin William was born in London, the son of Col. Sir Alfred Mordaunt Egerton, K.C.V.O., and the Hon. Lady M. G. Egerton.
He was educated at Eton, and at the time of the 1901 census, was staying with his parents at Stud House, Hampton Court.
His father was Controller to HRH Duke of Connaught, and his mother Lady in Waiting to the Duchess of Connaught.
He was up at Christ Church from 1900 to 1903. In the summer of 1901, he played cricket for the Bullingdon Club.
In 1911 he was living at 36 Blomfield Terrace, Pimlico described as “merchant with American Financial house” and employing a butler and a pageboy. He married on 15 June 1912, Jane, the daughter of Lord Victor Seymour. They had four children Mary Elizabeth in 1913, Sybil 1914, Seymour John Louis 1915, and Francis Louis 1918.
He was a Captain in the Royal Buckinghamshire Hussars attached to the X1V Corps Heavy Artillery, and had served in Egypt and Palestine, before he was killed near Pilkem, France.
His Estate amounted to £7032 12s 5d, administration with will granted to his widow.
At St Mary’s Church, Chilton near Brill, Buckinghamshire the original makeshift wooden cross from his grave forms part of a memorial to him.
His brother Lt. Col. Arthur Egerton, 1st Bn. Coldstream Guards, was killed in September 1915.
