Patrick was born in Kensington in the summer of 1922 to Edwin Geoffrey Sarsfield-Hall and his wife, Ethel Robin Clowes. He had a younger sister. His father was Governor of Khartoum.
When young, Patrick spent some time in the Sudan; the family with their nanny returning to England from Port Sudan in February 1928. His parents retired to Keswick in 1936 and lived at Skiddaw Lodge.
He was educated at Radley and Matriculated in 1940. He was up at Christ Church for a year and was awarded his BA in 1944.
He was gazetted to the 3rd Battalion Irish Guards on 20 March 1942.
He died on 28 October 1944, presumably from injuries received earlier.

The Bn remained in the area of the NIJMEGEN bridges and carried out a role of local protection. The period was quiet and uneventful and from time to time the Bn was visited by the Corps, Div and Bde Commanders for the purpose of inspecting the defences.
He is buried in the Jonkerbos War Cemetery Plot 18. A. 6.
He is commemorated on the Keswick War Memorial
