Adrian Frederick was the eldest son of Adrian Dura Stoop and his wife, Audrey Deline Needham. He was born in India. He had two younger brothers.
His grandfather was Frederick Cornelius Stoop, a Dutch-born philanthropist and socialite who made his fortune with Shell. His father, A.D Stoop [1883-1957} was captain of the Oxford University rugby team in 1904. Between 1901 and 1939, he played 182 times for Harlequins and won 15 caps for England. He was President of Harlequins from 1920 to 1949. The club's ground is named The Stoop in his memory. He was a barrister.
A.F. arrived in England from India in December 1919 with his parents and an ayah.
He was educated at Rugby like his father and brothers. He Matriculated in 1938 and spent two years at Christ Church.
He was gazetted from a cadet to the rank of Second Lieutenant in the RAC on 3 July 1942. He was attached to the 9th Battalion the Royal Fusiliers [City of London Regiment].
He died of wounds on 4 February 1944 and is buried in the Minturno War Cemetery Plot II, A, 2.
His youngest brother, Michael, loaned his car to Lord Lucan in October 1974, after he murdered Sandra Rivett, his children’s nanny. Lucan was never seen again. Michael died in 2010.
