Henry was born in St Clements, Oxford in 1889 to John, a bootmaker, and Emily. His name appears on the War Memorial as Henry but from his birth certificate onward he is shown as Harry.
John and Emily’s son John, was born in Bath in 1880, George in Weymouth in 1882, Charles in Poole in 1884, William in Salisbury in 1886, but after Harry’s birth the family appears to have settled down in St Clements, though moving from 106 St Clements in 1891 census, to 24 St Clements by 1901.
Harry joined up on 28 June 1915, service no 200513, and fought in France and Flanders. He was wounded on 22 March 1916, and died of his wounds on 9 August 1917.
He was awarded the 1915 Star, the War & Victory medals.
Although all the brothers fought in the war, it appears that only Harry lost his life.
