Hubert Bradshaw was born in Manchester to William Pitt Dixon, a merchant, and proprietor of the lime kilns near Buxton, and his wife Martha. They lived at Thornbridge Cottage, Great Longstone, Bakewell. His father died in 1900, and the last time he visited Great Longstone was for his mother’s funeral in January 1915.
He was serving on 4 August 1914, served in France, and was Mentioned in Dispatches in 1915. He was killed on 12 March 1915 at Neuve Chapelle and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, Panel 26 and 27. He is also named on the Great Longstone, Derbyshire War Memorial.

His Estate amounted to £4827 9s 7d. Probate granted to William Longsdon Shaw, gentleman.
