Simon was born in the autumn of 1924 in Battle, Sussex, the eldest son of Anthony Eden and his first wife, Beatrice Helen Beckett. His father, later, became Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Anthony Eden, K.G., M.C., P.C., B.A., D.C.L., J.P., M.P. for Warwick and Leamington, 1923-1957, Prime Minister of Great Britain, 1955-1957,

He was educated at Eton and matriculated in 1942. He was up at Christ Church for a year.

He was a navigator with the 62nd Squadron RAF VR, serving in Burma when he went missing in June 1945. His death was later confirmed as having occurred on 23 June 1945.

His obituary notice in The Times on 8 August 1945, asked for no letters.

He is buried in Taukkyan War Cemetery Coll. grave 25. J. 9-12

His CWGC record states that he was a Pilot Officer but the Times notice on 8 August 1945 gives his rank as Sergeant.
