William Morris was born in London, the only son of William Appleton Morris, and his wife, Caroline Sergent Green. Both were citizens of the United States of America, but resident in England.
W.A. Meredith, a member of a prominent family in Philadelphia, was a renowned surgeon who practised in London prior to 1881 and held many public appointments.
William was at preparatory school at Horris Hill, Highclere in 1901 and went on to Eton. He came up to Christ Church in 1910.
By 1911, his father had retired and the family were living at Little Massingham Manor near Kings Lynn. Staying with them was Louise Angela Eunice de Winton, the thirty-year-old daughter of Maj. General Frances de Winton. She and William married at the Church of St. Martin’s in the Fields, in the autumn of 1916.
William died on 7 December 1918 at Day’s Watering, Ditchingham, Norfolk as a result of illness contracted during his war service. His successor in the Regiment as ADC was gazetted on 19 March 1919.
Probate was granted to his widow on 7 February 1919. He left £148-0s-7d.
His name is recorded on the War Memorial at Little Massingham.
