Robert Myles was born in Manchester, the only child of Robert and Annabel Crook Heywood of Hales Hall, Cheadle, Staffordshire.

He was commissioned on 14 August 1914, Lieutenant 3rd Battalion E Kent Regiment

On 8 December 1914 he married Barbara de Hoghton, daughter of Sir James de Hoghton 11th Bart and Aimee Jean Grove of Hoghton Tower, Preston, Lancashire.

He died of wounds received in action near St Eloi.

Commemorated in the parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Charlton, Dover, Kent, and on the Kingsley, Staffordshire, civic war memorial.
