The Cathedral Chapter warmly invites parishes in the diocese to visit the Cathedral, to share in its worship and discover its history.

Making a Parish Pilgrimage

People have been visiting this medieval church for over 800 years, ever since local pilgrims came here to pray at the shrine of St Frideswide, the patron saint of Oxford.

We welcome parishes to walk in the footsteps of these pilgrims, and learn how a tiny Anglo-Saxon church became an Augustinian Priory built to house the shrine of St Frideswide. Later this same Priory was transformed into a unique dual foundation – that of Oxford’s Cathedral and the college chapel of Christ Church.

After discovering the highlights of the Cathedral with your Guide, you will head up to the Great Hall for afternoon tea. After tea, your Guide will unwrap more of Christ Church’s treasures for you, before you take your seats for Choral Evensong, one of the highlights of your visit. Here you will be witnessing an age-old choral tradition sung by the world-famous Cathedral Choir or our wonderful girls' choir, Frideswide Voices.

We do hope you will visit us this year.
