He was the only child of Denis George Garbutt and Florence M Spink and was born in Bradford. The family lived for many years at 21 Highfield Crescent, Heaton, Bradford.
He was educated at Bradford Grammar School [King’s House] from 1932 until 1942 in which year he Matriculated. He came up to Christ Church for a year.
A Flying Officer Navigator, he was killed in a plane crash on 20 June 1946. His death was registered in East Elloe.
He is buried in Bridlington Cemetery Plot Sec. W. Grave 61.
His father wrote to the college on June 20 1947. He died in 1971.
