Academic Background
I graduated in philosophy from Cardiff University, and in theology from Oxford. I then taught philosophy at the Universities of Glasgow, St. Andrews, and King’s College, London; I was Dean of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, then Professor of the Philosophy of Religion at King’s, London, and Regius Professor of Divinity at Oxford. I am a Fellow of the British Academy, and am now otherwise retired.
Research Interests
I am particularly interested in the relation of science and religion, and in the study of religions in the modern world.
