Academic background

After undergraduate studies at University of Cambridge and the Royal London Hospital I completed training in General Paediatrics, taking a three-year break to do an MD (University of Cambridge) based on work in Kenya. I was Elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2013.

Research interests

My research concerns newborn, child and adolescent health within global health, with a focus on health systems research, and on implementation science and complex clinical interventions.

Sharing perspectives in newborn and child health

On 4 December 2023 representatives from international non-governmental organisations (INGOs), other third-sector organisations and academia gathered at Christ Church’s Research Centre to share their perspectives and experience in the field of neonatal and paediatric health. On 27 and 28 September Professor Mike English, Senior Associate Research Fellow at Christ Church, and the former Nuffield Trust Director Professor Nigel Edwards convened a meeting at Christ Church to share and debate ideas on the role of hospitals in achieving the World Health Organization goal of Universal Health Coverage.
