Piano recital: Judith Valerie Engel
Judith Valerie Engel recently defended her DPhil in Historical Musicology, as a Stone-Mallabar Scholar at Christ Church. This conversation concert explores the music of some of the many women composers who were actively engaged in European musical life, but have been all but forgotten.
The music will be performed alongside discussions of the composers’ lives and their social and historical contexts. The programme features works recovered from the archives including Josepha Aurnhammer 6 Variations sur un Thême Hongrois, works by Maria Theresia von Paradis, Helene Liebmann and others.

Five Centuries of Music
Music has played a central role in the life of Christ Church throughout its history, not least thanks to the work of its world-famous choir established in 1526 with John Taverner as the first Organist and Master of the Choristers. Our festival celebrates the music and musicians who have played and continue to play a role in the life of the College, Cathedral, City and beyond.
