Oxford Open Doors Open Day

We are delighted to be participating in Oxford Open Doors in partnership with the Oxford Preservation Trust. 

Christ Church will be open on Saturday 12 September 2026 for self-guided visits of the quads, cloister, Hall, Cathedral and gardens between 10am - 5pm (last entry available at 3.30pm). Demonstrations, short talks and family activities will be taking place across the site throughout the day.

Guided Tours 

Please note advance booking is not available for guided tours. Places will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis. Numbers are limited. Please book a general admission ticket on our booking system and make your way to the relevant sign-up location to enquire about availability and sign-up.

The Library: 20-minute guided tours from 10am - 4pm. 

The Cathedral: Guided tours of the Cathedral lasting 45 minutes are available at 10.15am, 12pm, and 3pm. 

The Bell Tower: 30-minute bell tower tours and demonstrations available at: 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30am, 2.30am, 3.30am, 4.30am. You must be able to climb and descend a long, steep spiral staircase (80+ steps). 

Music Programme

11am      Organ recital (30 mins)

1pm        Organ recital (30 mins)

2pm        Come and Sing’ with the Cathedral Singers (45 mins)

4:45pm   Cathedral closes to visitors 

4:45pm   Open rehearsal with the Cathedral Choir (60 mins) – separate advanced booking essential - FULLY BOOKED

6:05pm   Choral Evensong with the Cathedral Choir (50 mins) - Entry via Tom Gate 

How to Book 

General Admission - Select your entry time and book your tickets online in advance here. 

General Admission at 4pm plus Open Rehearsal with the Cathedral Choir - THIS OPTION IS NOW FULLY BOOKED

• Please note that you will need to be seated in the Cathedral by 4:40pm for a rehearsal start time of 4:45pm, and you will need to remain for the full hour rehearsal.
• If you do not wish to remain for Evensong you may leave in the gap between the end of the rehearsal and Evensong (5:45-6:00pm). You may of course remain and attend Evensong.
• Photos, videos, or recordings of the rehearsal are not permitted.

Before the open rehearsal you will be able to see the quads, gardens, Cloister, Hall and Cathedral on a self-guided visit only. The Cathedral will be preparing for the rehearsal during this time and therefore there will not be an opportunity to see any of the demonstrations. You are welcome to also book a general admission ticket earlier for the day if you wish to. 

Please Note

A maximum of 6 tickets may be booked per person.

We are not open for commercial groups to visit on this day. 

Guiding on site is not permitted.

Suitcases, luggage, and bags larger than 40cm x 30cm x 20cm (H x W x D) may not be brought on site. Skateboards, scooters, and any type of bicycle are not permitted on site. Please do not bring these items with you as we do not have the facilities to store them.

Children (under 18s) must be accompanied on site by an adult at all times.
