Booking Process

Booking is recommended at all times for groups of 15 or more paying persons and is essential in July and August. Booked groups will be advised as soon as possible of any closures, such as the Hall or Cathedral, which may affect their visit. Groups that have not booked are advised to visit the Christ Church website during the week of their visit to check our opening hours. Bookings may be made by emailing tourism@chch.ox.ac.uk. We aim to reply to all requests within 24 hours. Please see above for dates we are already fully booked over the summer.

The amount of time spent on a visit is a personal choice, but for the purposes of planning a visit we can advise that on average most visitors spend 40 minutes – 1 hour at Christ Church.

Your Visit

Please arrive at the Visitor Centre in good time for your self-guided visit. During busy periods late arrivals will be rescheduled to suit visitor flow.

Group leaders should go to the Groups desk in the Visitor Centre upon arrival. Final numbers will be agreed and payment in one lump sum will be taken. Payment may be made by cash, credit or debit card (except American Express). While the tour leader is making payment and finalising the entry arrangements group members can look at our shop and use the facilities. A multimedia guide is included in the ticket price and is mandatory for all visitors unless they have a tour guide. Multimedia guides are currently in English but we will be releasing 8 other languages in early - mid November.

Guiding

Guiding is possible at most times. The approved locations for guiding are as follows: Meadow Quad (to left of the entrance to Cloisters), at the bottom of the Hall Stairs by the No Peel door, the Ante-Hall, Cloister garden, Fell Tower and in the Cathedral. Our bowler-hatted Custodians will be able to advise on the best place to stop and speak to your group. Please note that portable voice amplifiers are not permitted to be used when guiding.
