Translating the Bible: A Study Afternoon

Distinguished speakers will explore the enduring effort to translate the Bible into the world’s native languages and how the vernacular Bibles produced during the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries brought the Bible to non-clerical readers for the first time. 

Registration includes refreshments (not lunch): £15; £5 concessions (for University of Oxford staff and alumni, and those over 65); free for students of any institution and those who are unemployed. Proof of eligibility must be presented with your ticket when you visit.

4 - 4.30pm: Dr Elizabeth Solopova (University of Oxford), 'The Wycliffite Bible: The First Complete Translation of the Vulgate in English’

4.30-5pm: Professor Diarmaid MacCulloch (University of Oxford), 'William Tyndale in the Beginnings of the English Reformation'

5pm: Closing Remarks

5.15pm: Visit to the Upper Library exhibition* and drinks reception.
