Christ Church kicks off the year with sporting success
It has been an incredible start to the academic year at Christ Church, with Week 2 of Michaelmas term bringing victories across every sport. All six teams that competed over the weekend came away triumphant, marking a stellar beginning to the season.
Both netball teams led the charge with impressive performances. The women’s side produced a thrilling comeback to edge past Exeter 9–8, while the mixed team secured a confident 10–6 win against St Anne’s.
On the football pitch, success continued. The men’s team battled to a hard-fought 2–1 victory over St Anne’s in their Cuppers match, and St Aldates FC delivered a commanding 9–1 win against Lincoln.
The weekend’s momentum carried through to Sunday as Christ Church Rugby Football Club stormed to a 31–12 victory over a combined Jesus and Oriel side. Meanwhile, the women’s rowing team added to the celebrations in Gloucester, winning their division with the fastest time of the day.
From Rory Randall dislocating his shoulder while celebrating the football team’s winning goal, to Jessie Gibson claiming player of the match in netball, and Tim Herd putting in dominant tackles on the rugby field – it was a week that showcased not only Christ Church’s sporting talent, but also its passion, determination, and team spirit.
Christ Church looks forward to building on this exceptional start as the term continues.
