Christ Church wins Men’s Rugby Cuppers Bowl

Christ Church men’s rugby team beat Queen’s to secure the Rugby Cuppers Bowl in a strong final performance that saw them take a 31 points to 7 victory.

Professor Jason Davies said: 'Having lost only one game this season (sadly the first game of our cuppers main draw), the Christ Church rugby team arrived in the bowl final against Queens in good form. This was put into effect, when Josh McConnell carried the ball over in the early stages of the game to give Christ Church the lead. From here onwards however, the game was a tense affair, with Christ Church conceding penalty after penalty, kept down on our try line.

'A motivational talk from next year’s captain Louis Wilson got us back on track and early in the second half Harvey Morris produced a moment of magic, with a chip and chase try into the corner to increase our lead. From there we went from strength to strength putting try after try onto the scoreboard, as Queens tired and our pace out wide shone through. The final score, 31-7 Christ Church!

'The result was a testament to the effort and commitment put in throughout the season by the members of the squad and shows hope for the future of Christ Church RFC.'
