Professor Richard Barker launches first two international standards for sustainability reporting

Professor Richard Barker, who is currently taking leave from his position as Tutor in Management at Christ Church, has launched the first two international standards for corporate reporting at the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).

The ISSB was announced at COP26 on 2021 and has been established to create sustainability-related disclosure standards, to be used by listed companies globally. Professor Barker joined as a founding member of the board the following year, with an aim to extend financial reporting to include setting standards for sustainability-related information. He was granted a four year leave of absence from the University and Christ Church to further the work of the ISSB.

Professor Barker said: “The launch of these standards is a major step towards a global baseline of investor-oriented sustainability reporting. There is now much more to do, not least ensuring mandatory adoption across jurisdictions globally.”
