Staff’s children enjoy festive Christmas party at Christ Church
On Saturday 13 December, Christ Church hosted its annual Christmas party for the children of staff members, with this year’s festivities taking place in the JCR. The much-loved event brought together families for an afternoon of seasonal fun, games and creativity. Jackie Billington, one of the event’s organisers, told us more about the joyful occasion.
Last weekend Christ Church welcomed the children of staff members to the annual Children’s Christmas Party, which this year was themed around The Grinch. The JCR was transformed with Grinch-related decorations, with balloons adorning the walls and matching tableware setting the scene. On arrival, the children were entertained by Dave the Entertainer, who kept everyone thoroughly engaged throughout the afternoon. At one point the room was filled with “snow”, much to the children’s delight – though perhaps less so for parents, as snow angels soon appeared across the floor!
A variety of games were played, with children winning small sweets and prizes. One of the highlights was when Mandy, Deputy Lodge Manager, and Camilla, House Manager, volunteered to be transformed into snowmen. Armed with toilet paper, carrots for noses and Christmas hats, children – and adults – enthusiastically joined in. Both were declared the best-wrapped snowmen, and all the children were rewarded with more sweets.
Food was then served, including carrot and cucumber sticks with dips, a variety of bread rolls, sausage rolls, crisps and satsumas. Parents were also treated to delicious brownies, kindly provided by our kitchen staff.
More dancing and games followed before it was time for crafts. The children could choose between colouring in, making Christmas snowman ornaments or decorating biscuits, all of which proved popular with adults as well. The afternoon finished with a visit from our resident Grinch, Dave Bateman, who ensured every child went home with a party bag, a bag of pick ’n’ mix sweets and a tub of colourful slime.
Huge thanks to all the staff who helped to make this such a wonderful event. Merry Christmas!
