Permanent residents of Oxford (OX1-4) may apply for a Residents' Card and receive entry to areas of Christ Church open to the public during visitor opening hours. 

How to apply for a Residents' card

Complete our online application form. You will be required to upload a photograph for each cardholder and confirm which forms of ID you will be providing as proof of address (OX1-4) and proof of ID (one from each list must be shown when collecting your card).

The accepted forms of ID are:

Proof of ID 

Passport

Photocard driving licence

Older Person's Bus Pass

Council tax bill

Driving licence

Rental Agreement (minimum term of 12 months with at least 6 months remaining)

Please allow up to 14 days for your application to be checked and your card to be produced. You will be advised by email when your card is ready and an appointment made for you to collect this from our Visitor Centre. 

 

Terms and conditions

  • There is a one-off payment of £10 (18 yrs+), £5 (5-17yrs) per card. This charge covers the costs associated with the production of the card.
  • Payment must be made online by completing our application form.
  • Cards are valid for 12 consecutive months from the date of payment. 
  • Residents’ cards are non-refundable.
  • Children under 5 do not need a card, but must be accompanied by an adult with a card when visiting Christ Church.
  • Children 5 – 17yrs will need their own card and must be accompanied by an adult with a card at all times when on site. An alternative proof of address can be provided for children, such as a bank statement. Please state the form of ID being provided on the application form.
  • Possession of a card does not entitle the cardholder to bring guests free of charge into Christ Church. 
  • The cardholder will receive 10% off merchandise in the Thatched Barn Shop on presentation of their card.
  • Christ Church reserves the right to refuse an application if the application is considered inappropriate or incomplete.
  • Cardholders may visit areas on our visitor route during visitor opening times but Christ Church reserves the right to restrict access at any time, particularly during exam periods. Opening times can be checked in advance by visiting the Known Closures page of our website. Closures may occur at short notice and entry suspended at peak visiting times.
  • The card remains the property of Christ Church, Oxford at all times.
  • A card will only be issued to the named cardholder and after the required forms of ID have been shown. It is the cardholder's responsibility to provide the correct, valid forms of ID. If these cannot be provided upon collection of the card, the application will be refused and an admin charge of £5 will apply. Please contact us on tourism@chch.ox.ac.uk prior to completing the online application with any queries relating to photo ID and proof of address. 
  • Each person applying for a card must provide his or her own proof of address (OX1-4) and identity. The proof of address provided must match the address on the application form.
  • Cards are not transferable and may only be used by the person whose name and photograph appears on it. Misused cards will be confiscated and suspended.
  • Entry for cardholders is via Meadow Gate only. Cardholders may exit via Meadow Gate and, when open, Canterbury Gate. 
  • Christ Church reserves the right to withdraw a Residents’ card at its discretion.
  • It is the cardholder’s responsibility to notify Christ Church of any change of address or stolen cards. Proof of address is required to update your address. Lost or stolen cards will be reissued at a charge of £5. Please email tourism@chch.ox.ac.uk if you require a replacement.
  • A card becomes invalid if the holder moves out of OX1-4 and the card must be returned to Christ Church.
  • Cardholders are responsible for renewing their Residents’ card every year and in good time before the expiry date.
