Christ Church graduate courses

Graduate students play an important role in the life of Christ Church. At any one time, we have around 260 students studying for higher degrees and diplomas, about half of whom are from overseas.

The list of courses that we offer to graduate students changes from year to year. See which graduate courses Christ Church offers right now on the University website

The application process and selection criteria

Applicants must first have been accepted by a Department or Faculty of the University of Oxford before any college or permanent private hall may consider them. See the University of Oxford application guide.

Applications are usually considered by academic staff in the relevant subject area, together with the Tutor for Graduates and the Dean. Their decision will be affected by a number of factors.

  • Preference will normally be given to applicants whose area of study overlaps with the academic interests of the College’s academic staff.
  • The College aims to admit a certain number of graduate students each year spread across the range of subjects in which it accepts graduate students, and this will determine the number of offers that can be made to applicants.
  • Where there are more applicants than offers that can be made, the relative academic merit and potential of the applicants may be taken into account. It may not be possible to make offers to applicants whose applications are received late in the admissions round, when places are full.
  • The possession of competitively-won funding may be taken into account as an indicator of the applicant’s academic merit and potential. Learn more about graduate scholarships at Christ Church.

Financial criteria

Any offer of a place will be subject to satisfactory financial evidence that the applicant can (i) show that they have sufficient funding to cover the course fees for Year 1 of their course by providing financial evidence; (ii) give their assurance that they are able and willing to meet all course fees beyond Year 1, if the duration of your course is longer than one year (no financial evidence of this is required); and (iii) give their assurance that they are able and willing to meet their living costs for the duration of their course (no financial evidence of this is required).
