Jason Davis awarded prestigious ERC Advanced Grant

Professor Jason Davis, Tutorial Fellow in Chemistry at Christ Church and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford, has been awarded a prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant of up to €2.5 million in support of his pioneering research on nanomaterials.

ERC Advanced Grants are among Europe’s most competitive research awards, supporting established research leaders to pursue ambitious, curiosity-driven projects with the potential to deliver major scientific breakthroughs. The grants provide up to €2.5 million in funding over five years.

Professor Davis’ project will explore how nanomaterials interact with molecular water, laying the foundations for new approaches to medical imaging, diagnostics and therapy. The research aims to develop responsive nanomaterials that can be controlled at the molecular level, with potential applications ranging from the early detection of neurodegenerative disease to improved methods for identifying and capturing circulating cells in the body.

Professor Davis said: ‘This major award is in recognition of the work carried out by some really talented young scientists in my group in recent years. It will allow us to build on this and to develop significant tools in diagnostically relevant medical imaging and therapy.

‘I would absolutely like to acknowledge the importance of and support from the Christ Church community.’

Professor Davis is one of 14 Oxford academics to receive an ERC Advanced Grant in this funding round.

The Christ Church community warmly congratulates Professor Davis on this outstanding achievement.
